Monika Oechsler born in Germany, lives and works in London. In 1990 she completed the BA Fine Art programme at Goldsmith College, University of London. In 1993 she received a Film and Video Award from the Arts Council of Great Britain and undertook a six-month residency at HMP Belmarsh awarded by the Council of Greenwich, London. In 1994 she received the New Technology Awards from the Arts Council of Great Britain. From 1994 to 1996 she completed the MA Fine Art at Goldsmith College, University of London.
In 2002 the artist was invited to a six-month residency at Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart, Germany where she produced a series of major video works at the Staatstheater Stuttgart. Her work is both, performative and cinematic and includes multi-screen installations, multi-speaker sound environments, video, photography and animation.
She has received many major commissions amongst others from the Film and Video Umbrella in 1998, the South West
Media Development Agency and Picture This in 2000, Video Positive and Tate Liverpool in 2000, Site Gallery Sheffield in 2003, Edith-Russ-Gallery for Media Art in 2004 and Werkleitz Biennale in 2006.
Recent projects were a live performance event at James Hockey Galleries in 2007 and solo shows at Lentos, Kunstmuseum, Linz, Austria in 2005 Edith-Russ-Site for Media Art, Oldenburg, Germany in 2004 Site Gallery, Sheffield, UK in 2003.
